Dinner at The Corner Kitchen – Asheville, NC

Asheville, North Carolina, is a vibrant mountain city nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, known for its lively arts scene, craft breweries, and eclectic mix of restaurants. Downtown Asheville is full of historic architecture, tree-lined streets, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it a favorite destination for travelers looking for both culture and culinary adventures. Just minutes from downtown lies the charming Biltmore Village, a storybook setting with cobblestone sidewalks, historic cottages, and boutique shops—a place where history and hospitality come together.

The Corner Kitchen in Biltmore Village

The Corner Kitchen is one of the most beloved restaurants in Asheville, and for good reason. Located in the heart of Biltmore Village, this restaurant occupies a historic 1895 home that was originally part of George Vanderbilt’s grand vision for the Biltmore Estate community. The Biltmore Village itself was designed as a picturesque town to house estate workers and includes quaint homes, churches, and shops, many of which still stand today.

Of course, the Biltmore Estate is the crown jewel of Asheville—America’s largest privately owned home, completed in 1895, featuring 250 rooms, stunning gardens, and an unparalleled legacy of architecture and design. The village around it was built to feel like an English village, and today it offers some of Asheville’s most unique dining and shopping experiences. The Corner Kitchen is a perfect example of this charm—historic yet modern, timeless yet welcoming.

First Impressions – The Building

Cozy restaurant exterior at night, warm string lights, greenery hanging, visible "Corner Kitchen" sign. Inviting atmosphere.

As soon as we arrived, we were taken aback by how inviting the building itself was. From the outside, The Corner Kitchen looks like a cozy cottage with stucco walls and deep red trim, accented by lush hanging ferns and a welcoming porch. The architecture immediately sets the tone for a warm and intimate dining experience, while the neighborhood around it adds to the quaint, almost storybook atmosphere.

Inside, the restaurant feels like stepping into a beautifully preserved historic home. The décor is a mixture of elegance and rustic charm, with rich wood accents, soft lighting, and artistic touches that pay homage to Asheville’s creative spirit. We loved seeing the details—from the classic fireplace to the antique-style cabinets and framed art. Even the bar area is sleek yet cozy, with shelves of spirits lining the wall and warm pendant lights above the counter. It’s the kind of space that makes you want to settle in and savor every sip, every bite, and every moment.

A Romantic Evening

A smiling man and woman take a selfie outdoors near parked cars and a house. She holds a glass of red wine. Trees and greenery surround them.

We arrived a little early for our reservation and were immediately offered a beverage while we waited. The evening was gorgeous, so we enjoyed our wine outside on the porch, watching people pass by and soaking in the quiet charm of the village. When it was time for our reservation, we were escorted upstairs to the most romantic table by a window. From there, we had a perfect view overlooking the corner below, complete with brick sidewalks and beautiful landscaping—a peaceful backdrop for a special anniversary dinner.

The Meal

Bowl of tomato soup with a dollop of cream on a wooden table, next to a glass of water. Napkin and spoon beside the bowl. Cozy setting.

Appetizer – Soup of the Day: Tomato Feta Bisque

We began with the soup of the day, a velvety Tomato Feta Bisque. The soup struck a perfect balance of sweet, ripe tomato flavor with a savory creaminess, while the feta added just the right amount of tang and richness. It was hearty, warming, and absolutely delicious—exactly the kind of starter that makes you slow down and savor the moment.

Appetizer – Low Country Crab Cake

Next, we shared the Low Country Crab Cake, which was nothing short of perfection. The crab cake itself was packed with tender, flavorful crab meat and lightly crisped on the outside. The house-made remoulade brought a creamy, tangy kick, while the frisée salad added a refreshing bitterness that cut through the richness. Topped with crispy shallots, every bite was layered with texture and flavor, making it one of the highlights of the evening.

Entrée – Fresh Catch

Dish with grilled tuna, sliced radish, and greens on orange sauce, served on a white plate. Wooden table background. Elegant presentation.

For one of our main courses, we chose the Fresh Catch, prepared with jerk seasoning and served over a silky coconut-carrot ginger purée. The fish was seared beautifully, with a slightly smoky crust and tender, flaky interior. The plantain tostones added a golden crunch, while the Caribbean pikliz—a spicy, tangy pickled slaw—brought brightness and heat that tied everything together. The flavors danced between savory, sweet, and spicy in a way that was truly unforgettable.

Entrée – Char-Siu HNG Pork Tenderloin

Grilled steak with red sauce, noodles, and colorful vegetables on a white plate. Set on a wooden table, creating a rustic ambiance.

Our second entrée was the Char-Siu HNG Pork Tenderloin, and it was every bit as extraordinary. The pork was tender and juicy, glazed with a sweet-savory char-siu sauce that was full of depth. It was paired with a tamari sesame cold udon noodle salad, which was light yet packed with flavor, while the pickled beech mushrooms added a delicate tanginess. The cucumber togarishi slaw was refreshing with just the right amount of spice, and the micro cilantro tied everything together with a fresh, herbal note. This dish felt both comforting and adventurous at the same time.

Dessert – Raspberry Brownie

A chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle on a white plate. Wooden table background, warm and inviting.

For dessert, we couldn’t resist the Raspberry Brownie. This indulgent treat featured a rich Dolci di Maria brownie topped with caramel, fresh raspberries, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The combination of tart raspberry with sweet chocolate and creamy vanilla was decadent and satisfying—the perfect finale to a truly special dinner.

Final Thoughts

Our dinner at The Corner Kitchen was everything we hoped it would be and more. From the historic setting in Biltmore Village to the warm hospitality and beautifully prepared dishes, every detail made our anniversary evening unforgettable. Asheville is full of amazing restaurants, but The Corner Kitchen stands out for its ability to blend history, charm, and elevated Southern cuisine into one memorable experience. We are so thankful we made the decision to dine here—it will remain one of our favorite meals for years to come.
